Right now, a bill is making its way through Congress that would protect the most important wildlife and fish habitat in Malheur County — including the Owyhee Canyonlands — while also protecting the rural way of life.

Senate Bill S2828 helps preserve landscape of Owyhee
As a local business that directly benefits from the amazing and pristine landscape of the Owyhee, we are in support of this bill primarily because it will preserve and improve both the land itself and the access areas to Lake Owyhee and the Owyhee River and other recreation areas which is the heart of our business.

President Lyndon Johnson signed the Wilderness Act into law on Sept. 3, 1964. In Oregon, there's a push to use that law to protect the unique Owyhee Canyonlands as wilderness.
